Roof Lights

Daylight is a vital natural resource that will significantly improve the environment within any building. Rooflights provide three times more light than the same area of vertical glazing. Roof lights are also very popular in loft conversions/attic rooms. They enable access for natural daylight, are low profile and provide good ventilation.

There are many types of roof lights from conservation roof lights, domed lights, Velux flat roof lights, to roof terrace Cabrio balconies, emergency escape/access roof windows and lantern lights.

The UK Government has reviewed Part L of the Building Regualtions for England and Wales, in order to make buildings more energy efficient and tackle climate change. The changes took affect in April 2006, and now mean homes need to be better insulated and use more efficient heating systems.

Tecta Roofing ensure that all rooflights used conform to Part L Building Regulations and have appropriate U–Value.

Frequently asked questions:

What is U–Value?

Answer: A measure of a material’s ability to conduct heat. The thermal performance of windows and doors is commonly stated in U–values. U–value is equal to 1/R (R–Value). The lower the U–Value, the better the material's insulating capacity. The heat loss rate of a building is the product of U–value, surface area, and temperature difference between indoors and outdoors.

Can I have a bespoke rooflight made?

Answer:Yes – Tecta Roofing work with numerous different rooflight manufacturers that offer the service of creating bespoke rooflights. There are so many different rooflights available in today’s buoyant market and Tecta will endeavour to find the right rooflight to suit customer requirements.

I have a flat garage roof that’s dark & dingy – What the best type of rooflight for a flat roof?

Answer: Again – there are numerous options available depending on your budget. If you are feeling extravagant, lantern or pyramid lights, or electric retractable lights are available. For a more modest rooflight – a domed light or a flush skylight are readily available.
